Creation of Enresa

Enresa was created in 1984 as a public, non-profit organisation responsible for the management of radioactive waste, with the aim to perform an essential public service: collecting, treating, conditioning, storing and disposing of the radioactive waste produced throughout the Spanish State.

Therefore, the task of Enresa is to protect people and the environment from radioactive waste. It is also included the dismantling of nuclear and radioactive facilities, as well as the environmental restoration of uranium mines.

Royal Decree 1522/1984 of July 14 authorising the establishment of the Spanish radioactive waste management agency Empresa Nacional de Residuos Radiactivos S.A. (Enresa)
